Bleed is a printing term that is used to describe a document which has images or elements that touch the edge of the page, extending beyond the trim edge and leaving no white margin. When a document has bleed, it must be printed on a larger sheet of paper and then trimmed down.
When preparing artwork, the image (picture, line, solid, etc) must extend beyond the trim line by 3 mm, to be certain that no white margin will show.
For small jobs such as business cards, 2mm is sufficient. 3mm should be used for bigger jobs.
Bleed
Avoid very narrow margins or borderlines that are very close to the trim edge. Trimming is not that accurate as paper can move slightly during the trimming process and variations will be noticeable.
